Our History
Our Roots
Longfield Tigers FC was founded in 1972 by Alan Smith, who brought together a group of local young players to form what would become a long-standing and much-loved grassroots football club. The first-ever Tigers match was played on 26th February 1972, with a team made up of a mix of 11- and 12-year-olds.
Growing the pride
From those early days, the club quickly grew in size and spirit. By the early 1980s, Longfield Tigers was regularly fielding multiple teams across a range of age groups, and today the club continues to thrive, with teams playing in the North Kent Youth League, Maidstone Youth Football League, and Maidstone Minor League.
Taking Football International
Longfield Tigers has always been about more than just local league football. The club has a proud tradition of international touring and building friendships across borders. Since our first overseas tour to Belgium in 1974, Tigers teams have travelled far and wide—playing over 200 matches against clubs in France, Holland, Ireland, Scotland, Canada, and the USA.
In 1993, we began a long-standing exchange programme with Dutch club S.V. Walcheren, which still continues today. Our players have also enjoyed cultural and football exchanges with Romeo Soccer Club in Michigan, USA — experiences that many still talk about years later.
A Club Run by the Community
What sets Longfield Tigers apart is our unwavering commitment to keeping football free for families. The club is entirely self-funded, and we do not charge any registration fees or subs. Everything — from kits and pitch hire to referee costs and training facilities—is covered through community fundraising, sponsorships, and donations.
Our success relies on the incredible support of volunteers and the local community. Events such as the Christmas Fair, Spring Draw, Quiz Nights, Golf Day, and our 100 Club monthly lottery all play a vital role in helping the club thrive.
Built by Volunteers
Longfield Tigers FC is run solely by a team of dedicated volunteers. No team manager or club official is paid—their time, energy, and even their expenses are all given freely to provide young players with the chance to enjoy football in a safe and supportive environment.
More Than Just a Football Club
We’re proud to be more than just a football club – we’re a family. Our goal has always been to give local children the opportunity to play the game they love, build lasting friendships, and be part of something special. Many of our past players remain connected to the club, and some have even returned to coach the next generation.
At Longfield Tigers, it’s not just about developing footballers — it’s about growing confidence, character, and community spirit. We look forward to continuing that tradition for many more years to come.
